A: What Makes You, You: Exploring the Brain
Presenter: Dr. Karagh Brummond
Moderators: Dr. Lynn Ipina, Taylor LaForce
We will spend our time together looking at the different parts of the brain and seeing how they make us who we are! Throughout the 30 minutes, we will do some interactive activities to show how the brain works and discuss how different parts of the brain work together. Come join me in exploring the brain!
D: Virtual ZOOMobile
Presenter: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (Dawn Moon)
Moderators: Aeriana Roth
Can’t come to the Zoo? We can still bring the Zoo to you and still practice safe social distancing through these virtual programs. Participants will:
- Meet animal ambassadors up-close.
- Have a live conversation with a keeper.
- Enjoy an amazing animal experience for everyone!
E: What is Falconry?
Presenter: Devin Jaffe
Moderators: Austin Smith and Peggy Peterson
Falconry is the ancient sport of hunting with trained raptors. In this workshop, you will learn about the sport, how falconers train their birds, the equipment used, and even meet real life falconry birds!
F: Exploring Information in Satellite Data with Artificial Intelligence
Presenter: Christina Kumler
Moderators: Ana-Clara Bobadilla and Ayda Lewis
Join me in a session where we learn to identify weather in satellite images the same way machine learning and artificial intelligence work! We will look at many cool images of the Earth, searching for cyclones just like the computer does, and then take a peak at the language the computer speaks to find these cyclones on its own.
G: Great American Eclipses
Presenter: Max Gilbraith, UW Planetarium
Moderators: Lydia Cooke
Great American Eclipses of 1878 and 2017: How the old west met with modern science and changed the world.
I: Unraveling Geologic Mysteries by Inspecting Rocks Under a Microscope
Presenter: Erin Stoesz
Moderators: Sydnie Fossberg
Students will begin with samples of rocks they’ve found (BYOR – bring your own rock!). Then we’ll learn a bit about petrology and microtexture analysis of rocks by looking at microscopic images projected on Zoom.
J: College 101
Presenter: UW Admissions Office
Moderators: Noah Cowper
Come learn about college! We will cover anything from general questions about college, the application process here at the University of Wyoming and applying for scholarships.
K: Learn the What about WHERE
Presenter: Karen Rogers
Moderators: Kelly Haigler Cornish and Celia Fisher
Location intelligence is about knowing where things or people are and what previously unseen patterns or relationships exist in the oceans of geographic data. We all use geospatial technology every day, between navigating to a new coffee shop with your phone or checking out Covid trends on the Johns Hopkins dashboard. Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS&T) is an exciting and diverse field that taps into such high tech applications as AI, machine learning, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and it can be applied to any field such as archaeology, wildlife biology, or engineering. This session will explain the basics of GIS&T and share resources young, curious minds can use to explore this field and the world around them.
M: Planetary Geology
Presenter: Pacific Science Center
Moderators: Deana Sadrieva and Simona Wambeke
Take a wild virtual ride to explore the planets and moons that make up Earth’s neighborhood, the solar system. Explore these unique landscapes, and see deep craters, magma filled volcanoes, giant seas of methane, and icy oceans.
9:30-9:40AM Break
9:40-10:10AM Live Session Two
Students will join their pre-registered live session below. Please note that Zoom sessions will be moderated and students may only join the session for which they are registered. Waiting rooms have been enabled; the moderator will begin letting students in when the presenter is ready.

B: Earth Science - Finding Your Place in the Future
Presenters: Mike Bingle-Davis and Marron Bingle-Davis
Moderators: Alicia Thoney
Take a tour with us and lets take a close look at what Geoscientists are experiencing in the very dynamic workplace in 2021.Out of almost all the scientific disciplines a person can choose today Geoscience is one of the most diverse and front-line oriented. We are constantly answering the worlds questions and needs regarding energy, sustainability, planning, and providing a firm foundation for the future.
Let’s take a look at two different but necessary paths – one addressing Global climate change and best course of action. The other, exploring for new and exciting minerals and elemental sources for materials fueling the future. We will take a look at our current energy mix and what is being tackled as a global problem and how the United States is leading the charge. The second part will address what materials are needed, what mines need to be built, and what can we do to most effectively answer the issues.
PART 1 : Geosciences role in Climate Change – A non-political look at the needs to a changing environment – real world examples
PART 2 : Geosciences and Material Retrieval – Where are the materials we need, where are we going to find them – real world examples
The role and place for the Geoscientist has never been more important, please come with us and take a look at what is quite possibly one of the most important roles in the future.
C: Careers in Healthcare
Presenters: Libby Littler, Jennifer Burrell
Moderators: Yikai Peng and Emily Purifoy
Explore different careers in health science!

H: An Eye in the Sky to Spot Changes in the Land
Presenter: Ramesh Sivanpillai
Moderators: Carrie Kyle, Rebecca Hinds
In this engaging session, students will learn how NASA/USGS satellites orbiting the Earth collect information about land surface (forests, rangelands, croplands, cities, and water bodies). This will be followed by a demonstration of an online tool build to track changes in land surface in county in the US. Students can see how one can visualize changes, e.g., area of grassland converted to urban, in any county. Students, working in teams or individually, can select a county and find out how land has changed since 2001.
