HIGH-ALTITUDE BALLOONING 101
STEP 7 – POST-LAUNCH FOLLOW UP
DATA ANALYSIS
Our balloon launch events do not currently include any set curriculum for data analysis or follow up. However, if teachers would like to do any post-launch data analysis of their own, we are happy to provide the full dataset we get from the SatCom or from our onboard radiosonde (if one was flown).
We are also willing to provide teachers with the raw video footage captured by our onboard video cameras. Be advised, this footage takes up a lot of computer storage space, often about 50 GB from each of the GoPro cameras and another 100+ GB from the Insta360 camera. To access this footage, we upload the files to Dropbox or Google Drive.
HIGHLIGHT VIDEO
Following the launch, we will usually compile all of our video footage, create a 5-minute highlight video, and upload it to our YouTube channel. These videos spotlight the most interesting parts of the launch event, including the launch, balloon burst, and landing. It sometimes takes us a while to put these videos together due to time constraints on our end. If teachers want to see the onboard video footage earlier than that, they can request a link to download the raw footage.
Please note that our raw footage will likely show student faces and other identifying features. If this is an issue, we can blur out student faces in the highlight video that we upload to YouTube. We always make sure to ask beforehand if we have permission to use photos or videos that include student faces.
WHAT EDUCATORS NEED TO KNOW
Make sure to let us know if we have permission to show your students’ faces in the highlight video that we will post to YouTube. After the launch, the teacher/educator can ask us to send them the onboard data from the SatCom as well as a link to download the raw video footage. Once we finish the highlight video, we’ll send the YouTube link to the teacher/educator. Make sure to share this video with your students, fellow teachers, and parents!
